IF A JOB'S WORTH DOING IT’S WORTH DOING IT WELL

Some useful tips.

  • Like any job the better the preparation the better and less stressful it will be on the move day.
  • Have a clear out — dispose of unwanted goods before the move not after it!
  • It’s never too early to start packing — ornaments and books etc. can be packed anytime (remember the loft or cellar if you have one) pack a box a night rather than twenty in a day.
  • Always tape the cartons. - Never cross fold them.
  • Mark on the carton the room where you would like it placed at your destination.
  • Do not use sealing tape to secure drawers on wood furniture. (This can leave a mark or damage veneer)
  • When packing fragile glasses and crockery, wrap individually in bubble wrap and utilise soft toys etc. to pack out the box.
  • Paper is one of the heaviest items!! Use smaller cartons when packing magazines and books.
  • Hang your clothes in bin liners —securely bind hooks together, cover them with a bin liner- hey presto you’ve got a inexpensive laundrette bag, it keeps clothes clean and dry and is quicker for us to move
  • Run down the food in your fridge/freezer. -Remember you should allow sitting time before switching on a fridge or freezer after it has been moved. (Check appliances instructions for sitting times)
  • Keep pot plants and garden furniture dry for a few days before the move if you can.
  • Store your ready to move cartons in a room nearest to the exit door. This saves time and you money.
